Európsky projekt “CINEMASTORIES OF WWII – Documentary films featuring WWII survivors and members of resistance as awareness and educational tools towards unbiased society” prebieha v spolupráci medzi Post Bellum a Tachles TV zo Slovenska, Post Bellum z Českej republiky, Gedenkstätte Bautzner Strasse Dresden z Nemecka a Documenta Zagreb z Chorvátska.
V posledných rokoch sledujeme znepokojujúce trendy ako popieranie holokaustu, nárast dezinformácií a hoaxov súvisiacich s 2. svetovou vojnou, nárast nenávistných prejavov na internete voči židovským preživším holokaustu (ako aj ich ďalším generáciám) a ďalšie negatívne javy. Tento projekt sa preto sústredí na pripomínanie, výskum a vzdelávanie o zločinoch spáchaných za totalitných režimov.
Cieľom tejto medzinárodnej kooperácie budú hodinové dokumenty so svedectvami pamätníkov z 2. svetovej vojny za každú zúčastnenú krajinu s tzv. druhou generáciou preživších. Pod týmto pojmom rozumieme ľudí, ktorí už priamo nezažili hrôzy druhej svetovej vojny, ale ich životy boli ovplyvnené prostredníctvom tragédií, ktoré sa odohrali v životoch ich starších rodinných príslušníkov.
Zdokumentované príbehy budú následne súčasťou verejného premietania, workshopov pre školy a databázy memoryofnations.eu.

V týchto dňoch sme v Post Bellum oficiálne odštartovali európsky projekt Cinema stories v spolupráci s organizáciami z Čiech, Chorvátska a Nemecka.
Na tlačovej konferencii sme ho predstavili spoločne s organizáciami Post Bellum Česko, Gedenkstätte Bautzner Strasse Dresden, Documenta Zagreb a tachles.tv, partnermi projektu.
Cieľom tejto medzinárodnej kooperácie budú hodinové dokumenty so svedectvami pamätníkov z 2. svetovej vojny za každú zúčastnenú krajinu a s tzv. druhou generáciou preživších. Pod týmto pojmom rozumieme ľudí, ktorí už priamo nezažili hrôzy druhej svetovej vojny, ale ich životy boli ovplyvnené prostredníctvom tragédií, ktoré sa odohrali v životoch ich starších rodinných príslušníkov.
Zdokumentované príbehy budú následne súčasťou verejného premietania, workshopov pre školy a databázy memoryofnations.eu.
Spolupráca a úsilie zachovať čo najviac svedectiev ľudí, ktorí zažili hrôzy totalitných režimov nemôže mať hranice. V kontexte dnešných dní si dôležitosť boja proti extrémizmu a nenávisti cez priamych svedkov uvedomujeme čoraz viac.

In these days at Post Bellum, we officially launched the project financed by the European Commission called Cinemastories of WWII in cooperation with organizations from the Czech Republic, Croatia and Germany.
We presented it during the press conference together with the organizations Post Bellum from Czech republic, Gedenkstätte Bautzner Strasse Dresden, Documenta Zagreb and Tachles.tv (our project partners).
The goal of this international cooperation will be one-hour documentaries with testimonies of World War II memorials for each participating country and with the so-called the second generation of survivors. By this term we mean people who no longer directly experienced the terror of the Second World War, but whose lives were affected through the tragedies that took place in the lives of their older family members.
The documented stories will subsequently be part of a public screening, workshops for schools and our online database memoryofnations.eu.
Cooperation and efforts to preserve as many testimonies as possible, of people who experienced the horrors of totalitarian regimes, cannot have limits. In today’s context, we are increasingly aware of the importance of fighting extremism and hatred through direct witnesses.

Natáčanie pamätníkov v Chorvátsku
V rámci projektu podporeného Európskou komisiou s názvom “Cinemastories WWII – Documentary films featuring WWII survivors and members of resistance as awareness and educational tools towards unbiased society” sme zdokumentovali pamätníkov v Záhrebe a Rijeke.
V máji 2022 sme uskutočnili 1. aktivitu projektu Cinemastories WWII – stretnutie a otvorenie projektu s našimi partnermi z Čiech, Slovenska, Chorvátska a Nemecka. Jedným z partnerov je aj Documenta Zagreb, s ktorou sme v rámci 2. aktivity spolupracovali na natáčaní pamätníkov 2. generácie preživších 2. sv. vojny a holokaustu.
Počas druhej aktivity projektu cestujeme s našim EYE direct štúdiom a dokumentujeme dôležité svedectvá a životné príbehy pamätníkov, ktoré neskôr budú súčasťou celovečerných národných filmov v krajinách našich partnerov, vrátane nás.
Počas týždňa od 25. – 30.09.2022 sme natočili a zdokumentovali 10 pamätníkov 2.generácie preživších. Dokumentovanie v Chorvátsku nám opäť prinieslo nové skúsenosti a najmä ďalšie príbehy ľudí, ktorí prežili. Prvé dva dni sme natáčali v Záhrebe v budove, kde sídli organizácia Documenta Zagreb. Pred kamerou sa ocitla aj riaditeľka organizácie Vesna Terselič.
Ďalšie dva dni sme sa presunuli natáčať do Rijeky, dve hodiny vzdialeného mesta od Záhrebu. Natáčali sme v priestoroch Aliancie protifašistických bojovníkov a antifašistov Primorsko-gorskokotarskej župy. Privítal nás tam aj jej predseda Dinko Tamarut, ktorý nám tiež pred kamerou porozprával svoj životný príbeh.
Počas natáčania sme sa museli prispôsobiť a s našim štúdiom presunúť raz aj do neďalekej 10 minút vzdialenej dediny z Rijeky a zdokumentovali sme skoro 100 ročného pána Ivana Crnčica priamo doma. Aj takéto zmeny sa nám nie raz dejú počas natáčaní, my však pre zachovanie histórie robíme všetko čo najlepšie vieme.
Počas 2. aktivity projektu nasleduje natáčanie u nášho nemeckého partnera v organizácii Gedenkstätte Bautzner Strasse Dresden v Drážďanoch. Časť tímu Post Bellum dokumentuje nemecké príbehy ľudí počas týždňa od 24.10 do 28.10.2022.

Recroding of testimonies in Croatia
As part of a project supported by the European Commission entitled „Cinemastories WWII – Documentary films featuring WWII survivors and members of resistance as awareness and educational tools towards unbiased society“, we recorded testimonies in Zagreb and Rijeka.
In May 2022, we held the 1st activity of the project called Cinemastories WWII– a meeting and opening of the project with our partners from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia and Germany. One of the partners is also Documenta Zagreb, with whom we collaborated as part of the 2nd activity on filming the testimonies of the 2nd generation of WWII survivors and holocaust.
During the second activity of the project, we travel with our EYE direct studio and document important testimonies and life stories of the monuments, which will later be part of feature-length national films in the countries of our partners, including us.
During the last week of September, 2022, we recorded and documented 10 testimonies of the 2nd generation of survivors. Documenting in Croatia again brought us new experiences and especially other stories of people who survived. The first two days we filmed in Zagreb in the building where the Documenta Zagreb organization is located. Vesna Terselič, the director of the organization, was also in front of the camera.
For the next two days, we moved to Rijeka, a city two hours away from Zagreb. We filmed in the premises of the Alliance of Anti-Fascist Fighters and Anti-Fascists of Primorsko-Gorsko-Kotara County. We were also welcomed there by its chairman, Dinko Tamarut, who also told us his life story in front of the camera.
During the filming, we had to adapt and move our studio once to a nearby village 10 minutes away from Rijeka, and we documented almost 100-year-old Mr. Ivan Crnčić right at home. Even such changes happen to us more than once during filming, but we do everything we can to preserve history.
During the 2nd activity of the project, filming will follow at our German partner in the organization Gedenkstätte Bautzner Strasse Dresden in Dresden. Part of the Post Bellum team documents the German stories of the people during the week from 10/24 to 10/28/2022.

Natáčanie pamätníkov v Nemecku
Počas posledného októbrového týždňa, konkrétne od 24.10.-28.10.2022 sme uskutočnili natáčanie a dokumentovanie pamätníkov 2. generácie preživších 2. sv. vojny a holokaustu v nemeckých Drážďanoch. Dokumentovali sme príbehy spolu s organizáciou Gedenkstätte Bautzner Strasse Dresden v rámci 2. aktivity projektu Cinemastories WWII – natáčanie pamätníkov 2. generácie preživších 2. sv. vojny a holokaustu, ktorý je financovaný Európskou výkonnou agentúrou pre vzdelávanie a kultúru zastrešenú Európskou komisiou.
Nachádzali sme sa v priestoroch bývalej okresnej správy ministerstva štátnej bezpečnosti a zároveň záchytného centra, ktoré sídli na Bautzner Strasse v Drážďnoch.. Bolo to sídlo represívneho aparátu vytvoreného SED, ktorý bol zodpovedný za politické prenasledovanie, väznenie a psychické mučenie.
Po skončení druhej svetovej vojny boli na mieste zatknutí, vypočúvaní a odsúdení skutoční alebo údajní národní socialisti, ale čoraz viac odporcovia režimu. Sledovací a väzenský komplex sa rozprestieral uprostred svahu rieky Labe, ktorý bol dovtedy cenený ako preferovaná obytná štvrť s výhľadom na mesto a jeho rieku. 5. decembra 1989 obsadili miesto občania Drážďan. Dokončili prácu Štátnej bezpečnosti bez násilia. Tam, kde boli v roku 1989 kritici režimu a zajatí utečenci z NDR stále väznení, boli teraz uložené spisy tajných služieb a neskôr odovzdané úradu pre záznamy Stasi.
V týchto priestoroch, “ktoré si pamätajú veľa”, sme natočili opäť 10 pamätníkov. S nemeckým partnerom Gedenkstätte Bautzner Strasse Dresden sme mali veľmi úspešný pracovný týždeň, ktorý bol zas v niečom výnimočný.
Dr. Hans Brenner porozprával svoj životný príbeh, ktorého súčasťou bolo aj jeho štúdium v Adolf-Hitler-Schule, bol dokonca vojnovým zajatcom, zachránil sa, a v ďalších rokoch svojho života urobil výskum, ktorý sa zaoberal okupáciou táborov a pochodmi smrti v Sasku po roku 1945. Hartmut Topf vo svojom príbehu spomínal aj prostredníctvom svojich vzdialenejších príbuzných, ktorý boli z radov inžinierov a staviteľov koncentračných táborov v Nemecku.
Zaujímavým príbehom nás previedla aj Dr. Christine Bücher, ktorej starý otec bol lekár a člen NSDAP, lekár Wehrmachtu a zároveň prateta bola “polovičnou židovkou”.
Všetky príbehy boli a sú silnou historickou a zároveň osobnou pamiatkou. Inak to nie je ani v prípade našich nemeckých pamätníkov…

Recording of testimonies in Germany
During the last week of October, specifically from 24.10.-28.10.2022, we filmed and documented the testimonies of the 2nd generation of survivors of the 2nd World War and the Holocaust in Dresden, Germany. We documented the stories together with the organization Gedenkstätte Bautzner Strasse Dresden as part of the 2nd activity of the Cinemastories WWII project – recording the testimonies of the 2nd generation of WW2 survivors. war and the Holocaust, which is financed by the European Executive Agency for Education and Culture by European Commission.
We were in the premises of the former district administration of the Ministry of State Security and at the same time the detention center located on Bautzner Strasse in Dresden. It was the headquarters of the repressive apparatus created by the SED, which was responsible for political persecution, imprisonment and psychological torture. After the end of the 2nd World War, real or alleged National Socialists, but increasingly opponents of the regime, were arrested, interrogated and convicted on the spot. The surveillance and prison complex was spread out in the middle of the slope of the river Elbe, which until then was valued as a preferred residential area overlooking the city and its river. On December 5, 1989, the citizens of Dresden occupied the place. They completed the work of State Security without violence. Where critics of the regime and captured refugees from the GDR were still imprisoned in 1989, secret service files were now stored and later handed over to the Stasi records office.
In these Memorial, we recorded 10 german´s testimonies. We had a very successful working week with our German partner, the Gedenkstätte Bautzner Strasse Dresden, which was also exceptional in some ways.
Dr. Hans Brenner told his life story, which included his studies at the Adolf-Hitler-Schule, he was even a prisoner of war, saved himself, and in the later years of his life did research dealing with the occupation of the camps and the death marches in Saxony after 1945. In his story, Hartmut Topf also mentioned through his more distant relatives, who were among the engineers and builders of concentration camps in Germany. Dr. also guided us through an interesting story. Christine Bücher, whose grandfather was a doctor and member of the NSDAP, a doctor of the Wehrmacht, and at the same time her great-aunt was „half-Jewish“.
All the stories were and are a strong historical and at the same time personal memory. It is no different in the case of our German monuments…

KINOPRÍBEHY “STRÁŽCOVIA DEMOKRACIE”
Ľudia počas 20. storočia, v období nedemokracie a totality na území dnešného Slovenska, museli za demokraciu, základné ľudské práva a slobody bojovať. Od roku 1989 ich máme a mnohokrát si ich dostatočne neuvedomujeme.
🕊️ Dnes je našou najdôležitejšou úlohou demokraciu, naše práva a slobody, ochraňovať. Našťastie už nemusíme bojovať so zbraňami ako naši starí a prastarí rodičia napríklad počas Slovenského národného povstania.

Cinemastories “Defenders of Democracy”
During the 20th century, in the period of non-democracy and totalitarianism in the territory of today’s Slovakia, people had to fight for democracy, basic human rights and freedoms. We have had them since 1989 and many times we are not aware of them enough.
🕊️ Today, our most important task is to protect democracy, our rights and freedoms. Fortunately, we no longer have to fight with weapons like our grandparents, for example, during the Slovak National Uprising.
🎥 Get to know the real stories of the 20th century in the movie from Post Bellum. The screening will be followed by a discussion with moderator Juraj Rizman and Sandra Polovková.

Národné filmy v 4 krajinách v rámci projektu Cinemastories of WWII
Jednou z aktivít projektu bola tvorba a produkcia 60 minútových filmov v každej z krajín partnerských organizácií nášho projektu Cinemastories of WWII. Výsledkom sú český, slovenský, chorvátsky a nemecký film, ktorý sa opäť potýkali s témou druhej svetovej vojny, holokaustu, židovskej menšiny i odboja.
V slovenskej verzii filmu sa objavujú príbehy a zábery s natáčania skutočných ľudských príbehov o emigrácií, úteku pred zavlečením do koncentračného tábora ale i o prežití hrôz koncentračného tábora, o odboji proti nacistickému Nemecku. V chorvátskom filme sa venovali ženským hrdinkám- Partizánkom a ich odvážnym činom počas 2. Svetovej vojny. Český film s názvom “Mez příkopy a valy” je českém meste, ktoré sa za druhej svetovej vojny stalo najváčším ghettom na českom území. Nemecký film obsahuje spovede nemeckých potomkov, veľakrát potomkov vojakov SS, ale i nemeckých židov a ďaľšiu generáciu mena Topf, ako jedného z hlavných konštruktérov plynových komôr v koncentračnom tábore Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Premiéry filmov v každej z krajín prebehli veľmi úspešne s účasťou verejnej audiencia počas roka 2023-2024.

The national movies from all of 4 participated countries in project called Cinemastories of WWII
One of the project’s activities was the creation and production of 60-minute films in each of the partner organizations of our project Cinemastories of WWII project. The result is a Czech, Slovak, Croatian and German film, which once again dealt with the theme of the World War II, the Holocaust, the Jewish minority and the resistance.
In the Slovak version of the film, there are stories and footage from the filming of real human stories about emigration, escaping from being dragged into a concentration camp, but also about surviving the horrors of a concentration camp, about the resistance against Nazi Germany. In the Croatian film, they focused on female heroes – Partisans and their courageous actions during the Second World War. The Czech film entitled „Between ditches and ramparts“ is about a Czech city that became the largest ghetto in the Czech territory during the Second World War. The German film contains the confessions of German descendants, often descendants of SS soldiers, but also of German Jews and the next generation of the Topf name, as one of the main constructors of the gas chambers in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.
Premiers of films in each of the countries took place very successfully with the participation of the public audience during the year 2023-2024.

Cinemastories of WWII: WRAP UP MEETING v Drážďanoch
V dátume od 26.-27.3.2024 sa uskutočnila posledná aktivita projektu Cinemastories of WWII – záverečné stretnutie partnerov projektu.
Wrap – up meeting sa konal v nemeckých Drážďanoch u nášho partnera z nemeckého Bautzner Straße Dresden Memorial. Počas stretnutia prebehla interná evaulvácia projektu, zhodnotenie našej práce v rámci organizácii a spoločná kooperácia. V rámci stretnutia nás naši partneri z Nemecka previedli priestormi, ktoré pripomínajú obete politických perzekúcii v sovietskej okupačnej zóne a NDR (dnes sídlo Memorialu). Na poobedný program bolo pripravené premietanie nemeckého filmu, ktorý bol jedným z výstupov projektu – spovede ľudí, 2. generácie preživších 2. svetovej vojny a holokaustu a ich príbuzných. Po premietaní nasledovala diskusia s tvorcami národných filmov z každej krajiny. Partnermi projektu boli Post Bellum SK, Post Bellum CZ, Tachles, Documenta (Chorvátsko), Memorial Bautzner Strasse Dresden (Nemecko). Za slovenské Post Bellum sa zúčastnili: Nina Pompošová – koordinátorka projektu, Sandra Polovková, riaditeľka Post Bellum, Martin Rodák – vedúci dokumentaristiky, Klaudia Belicová – vedúca vzdelávania a Róbert Pakan – finančný manažér Post Bellum.

Cinemastories of WWII: WRAP UP MEETING in Dresden
On March 2024, the final meeting of the project partners took place as last activity of the Cinemastories of WWII.
The wrap-up meeting took place in Dresden, Germany, at our partner from Bautzner Straße Dresden Memorial. During wrap-up meeting we did an internal evaluation of the project, an evaluation of our work within the organization and our cooperation between partners. As part of the meeting, our partners from Germany took us through the spaces that commemorate the victims of political persecution in the Soviet occupation zone and the GDR (today the seat of the Memorial). A screening of a German film was prepared for the afternoon program, which was one of the outputs of the project – confessions of people, the 2nd generation of survivors of the 2nd World War and Holocaust and their relatives. The screening was followed by a discussion with the creators of national films from each country. The partners of the project were Post Bellum SK, Post Bellum CZ, Tachles, Documenta (Croatia), Memorial Bautzner Strasse Dresden (Germany). The Slovak Post Bellum was attended by: Nina Pompošová – project coordinator, Sandra Polovková, director of Post Bellum, Martin Rodák – head of documentation, Klaudia Belicová – head of education and Róbert Pakan – financial manager of Post Bellum.
